Clara Barton faced many obstacles throughout her life. At age 11, her brother got ill, and she had to nurse him to health. Another obstacle she faced was that she was a female. She was not treated fairly. She founded a school, and was not allowed to run the school. When she started working as a patient clerk, she was doing a man's work for less than a man's pay. When she was given fair pay, she was treated badly by her male coworkers. After the war, she faced the obstacle of being gravely ill. After she was better, she founded the Red Cross.
